Corrections

A correction should help readers understand what changed and why.

Factual and material changes

When an editor identifies a material error, the correction should state the original issue, the corrected information and its supporting source. The corrected version goes through review before publication and receives an updated date.

A change that affects the meaning of a conclusion belongs in a visible note in the article. The updated date alone does not explain the nature of a correction.

Minor edits and withdrawals

Spelling, formatting and link repairs may be made without a lengthy correction note if they do not change meaning. Material changes still require an explanation.

Editors can withdraw a publication while an unresolved issue is examined. Private revision and publication history retain the reason for that action.

Reporting an issue

A public correction-submission channel has not launched. Contact information will be listed on the About page when available.

A useful report identifies the article URL, the specific statement, the reason it appears wrong and a source that supports the proposed correction. Please avoid sending personal medical records or other sensitive information.
